Height: Males 22-24 inches (56-60 cm.) Females 20-22 inches (51-56) Weight: 51-75 pounds (23-34 kg). According to the official standard of the FCI, there also are no weight requirements.

Cranial Region (Head): The crown is flat and has a gentle slope toward the stop. The stop should be clearly defined, but moderate. Inclination should not be abrupt.

Facial Region: Nose color is black. The nasal bridge should be straight and long. The muzzle should be wedge-shaped. Dogs with fawn color have a black mask.

Mouth: The lips are tight. The teeth are white and strong with a scissors bite. The tongue is usually pink and may have black spots scattered on it. Some dogs, rather than pink, may have tongues with a bluish-gray tint. A tongue with a varying number of dark spots is preferred.

Eyes: Middle-size and almond-shaped. The eye color is dark brown. In blue and silver coats, amber-colored is permitted.

Ears: Large, triangular in shape, inclining forward and firmly picked. Not cropped.

Neck: Strong and muscular, holding the head high.

Back: Strong and flexible.

Loin: Strong and broad.

Croup: Moderately round.

Chest: Deep enough to reach the elbows. The ribs are well-built, but not barrel-shaped.

Lower Line: The belly is tight and tucked up.

Tail: Thick base with gradual tapering toward the tip.
Curving upward, like a sickle or ancient warriors sword. (Preferable not to form a ring.)

Front Legs: The forearm should be straight.

Hind Legs: Well-developed thighs and slightly bent stifles. The nails are black or light through brown.

Gait: The stride should have no pitching or rolling of the body, tracking in two parallel straight lines. When viewed from the front, the forelegs should move up and down in straight lines so that the shoulder, elbow and pastern joints are approximately in line with each other. When viewed from the rear, the stifle and hip joints are approximately in line. The hind legs should move in a straight, smooth pattern forward, without throwing the feet in or outward enabling the stride to be long and the drive powerful. The overall appearance of the dog in motion should be smooth, fluid and well-balanced.

Skin: Soft and tight skin.

Coat: Hair is firm and smooth with a velvety feel. The ridge is formed by the hair growing in the opposite direction to the rest of the coat starting from slightly behind the withers and extending to the point of prominence at the hips. The ridge should be clearly defined from other parts of the back, tapering and symmetrical in shape.

Color: Solid colors. The predominant color, light chestnut red (the deeper the better), pure black, blue (silver), and fawn.
